Art photography roma.

Roman sculpture and industrial archeology. An ancient sculpture in white marble inserted inside an ancient power station in Rome has fascinated the artist. In the background the control panel of the large central unit with the instruments and on the right a signal with the word “start”. The photo was taken with a digital camera and printed by the same artist in resin-pigmentype. (The resin-pigmentype is a procedure studied directly by Maurizio Paolo Grassi and derived from the ancient technique of resinotyping invented by Professor Rodolfo Namias in the early years of the twentieth century.)

The work is printed in 9 copies by hand on cotton paper sensitized and treated directly by the artist. For the particular type of printing process, each copy is different from the other.

“Franco” is the title assigned by the artist to this photo printed in resino-pigmentype. A Roman-era bust in white marble. The photograph is taken in the background of an ancient electricity generator produced by the company “Franco Tosi”. The photo is printed in 9 unique and original copies. Each copy is different from the other and printed on watercolor paper sensitized and treated directly by the artist.

“The characteristic of architecture is that of creating spaces and functions that condition the behavior of individuals, this happens through expressions made up of a set of signs. A reference to the Ogden & Richards triangle there exists a primary function, denoted by the sign and a secondary function which communicates symbolic values dependent on the reading code (variable from culture to culture) The height of the triangle depends on the degree of secondary functions added to the sign (…).

(I resumed this note from my report on the project for the recovery of an ancient brick kiln I developed in the 80s of the twentieth century as a degree thesis.)

In this photographic “photo art collection” I wanted to relate the symbolic values of industrial archeology with those of Roman sculptures. “
